Lowenstein, who is tied for 9th in the NL in RBI with 10, went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 doubles, and 2 walks. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Darryl Kile, the winner, improved to 1-1. He held Chicago to 2 runs on 5 hits over 8 innings, while racking up 6 strikeouts. John Rocker collected his 3rd save.
Boston took a 5-1 lead on Lowenstein's 2nd double of the season. The bases-clearing double, which he hit off Buttons Briggs in the top of the seventh, propelled Boston to the win.
Lowenstein told a Boston Observer reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
