Americans Wrest Win from Orioles, 6-5 | The Boston Americans defeated the Baltimore Orioles, 6-5. Doing his part was catcher Willson Contreras, who went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Boston reliever Nels Potter got the win, raising his record to 2-1. Gregg Olson was tagged with the loss. The Orioles drop to 8-8 and continue their inconsistent start to the 1910 season.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Boston trailing 5-4, Kevin Youkilis hit a fastball from Charlie Hastings to center for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Americans had a walk-off win.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Youkilis, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at." | | | | |
