Host Twins Drop Pivotal Game 5, Now Trail Series 3-2 | The Philadelphia Athletics went into extra innings against the Minnesota Twins but ultimately moved to within one game of the World Series today. The Athletics downed the Twins at Metropolitan Stadium by a score of 5-4. Philadelphia right-hander Tex Carleton had a solid outing. He came in in relief and pitched to 22 batters. The win gives the Athletics a 3-2 advantage in the best-of-7 League Championship Series.
Philadelphia used the clutch hitting of Adam Lind to capture the win. The first baseman drilled a solo home run in the top of the 17th inning to put the Athletics ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a big one.
