Cardinals Clip Giants, 4-3 | St. Louis starter Marty Pattin had a strong outing against the New York Giants at Busch Stadium. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 4-3 win. Pattin, now 2-6, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 4, and allowing 3 runs. With the victory, the Cardinals upped their record to 40-39.
The Cardinals were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when second baseman Henry Moore turned a first pitch fastball from Speed Martin into a 2-run double. The walk-off double electrified the Busch Stadium denizens and sent the Cardinals home with a thrilling 4-3 win.
"This place sure got loud," said "Disco" John Conley, the St. Louis manager. | | | | |
