Yankees Earn 6-5 Win Versus Twins | The New York Yankees faced a tough opponent in Minnesota pitcher Pete Redfern, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Yankee Stadium by a final score of 6-5. Redfern went 7 innings and allowed 4 runs. The winner in relief was Bill Stafford. He is now 3-1. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3.1 innings. New York now sits in last place in the AL at 62-83.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the eighth, with the game tied, Mickey Mantle was at the plate when New York scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Yankees to go in front, 6-5.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Mantle. | | | | |
