Athletics Pick Up 3-2 Win | Philadelphia and Minnesota played a hard-fought contest.
The Philadelphia Athletics got a good effort from starter Rube Waddell in defeating the Minnesota Twins at Metropolitan Stadium. The final score was 3-2. Waddell, now 20-8, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 9, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs.
The Twins had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Athletics going into the top of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the fan favorite Wally Schang came to the plate. Schang hit a solo home run on a 0-1 fastball from Minnesota hurler Stephen Strasburg. It was Schang's 22nd home run of the year.
"Good to pick up this win," Waddell said.
The Athletics have an impressive 101-51 record. | | | | |
