The Philadelphia Athletics defeated the Minnesota Twins, 9-8. Doing his part was second baseman Cass Michaels, who went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 times. Philadelphia reliever Sean Doolittle got the win, raising his record to 2-0. Glen Perkins was tagged with the loss. The loss lowers the Minnesota record to 2-3.

Matt Olson struck a blow for the Athletics in the top of the tenth when he hit a solo home run. It put his team ahead, 9-8. For the game, Olson went 2 for 5 with a home run.

"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Olson told the Philadelphia News. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
