Cubs Knock Off Boston, 7-5 | The rain did not keep Chicago and Boston from finishing their game.
Richard Hidalgo did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Boston Doves from losing, 7-5, to the Chicago Cubs at South End Grounds. Hidalgo went 2-3 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Chicago starter Buttons Briggs was credited with the win after throwing 84 pitches over 5.1 innings. His record now stands at 7-3.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Jonathan Villar? The Chicago second baseman had a bases-clearing double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Cubs on top, 6-4. For the game, Villar had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"Winning never gets dull," said Villar.
The win for the Cubs lifted their record to 40-15. | | | | |
