Redlegs Come Up Short at Chicago, 5-4 | The Chicago Cubs relied on the hitting of center fielder George Gore to stop the Cincinnati Redlegs, 5-4. For the game, Gore went 2 for 4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Bob Anderson, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 5th save. Chicago leads the NL by 5 games.
With Chicago leading 2-0 in the bottom of the second, Gore hit a changeup from Al Hollingsworth for a 2-run double. It was his 10th double of the season and put the Cubs ahead, 4-0.
