Orioles Sneak Past Blues, 9-8 | Baltimore and Cleveland duked it out and the Orioles came out victorious.
The Baltimore Orioles knocked off the Cleveland Blues, 9-8, at Progressive Field. Cal Abrams produced 2 singles and 1 double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 1. Baltimore reliever Cliff Fannin was the winner. His record is now 3-4. The losing pitcher was Irv Young. Gregg Olson got the save, the 13th for him this season.
Baltimore used the timely hitting of Del Pratt to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Orioles on top, 9-8. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Pratt said.
Baltimore now has a record of 40-39 with the win. | | | | |
