Americans Score Late to Upend Athletics, 3-2 | Boston Americans starter Carl Mays turned in a sterling performance against the Philadelphia Athletics, leading his team to a slim 3-2 win. Boston reliever Johnny Taylor picked up the win, upping his record to 1-6. Sean Doolittle was saddled with the loss. Boston now sits at 52-61, while Philadelphia falls to 78-34.
The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the ninth, with Boston trailing 2-1, Adam Engel hit a fastball from Sean Doolittle for a 2-run home run, giving the Americans the walk-off win.
