Philadelphia Drops New York, 3-2 | The Phillies grabbed a win, 3-2, at Candlestick Park, overcoming a fine effort from New York pitcher Ed Doheny. Doheny went 8 innings and allowed 3 runs. Kenny Rogers picked up the win, improving his season record to 1-1. He struck out 6 in 7.1 innings. Ryan Madson earned the save, his 1st.
Ted Strong, the two-time All-Star , had a direct impact on the outcome. Strong contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the second inning to put Philadelphia up, 2-0.
