Doves Clip Cardinals, 4-3 | Fans saw a dandy of a game between the Boston Doves and St. Louis Cardinals.
Starting pitcher Jesse Barnes pitched well enough to help the Boston Doves beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-3. John Rocker, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 6th save.
The Doves got a big at-bat from right fielder John Lowenstein. For the game, Lowenstein went 1-4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 6th home run of the season gave Boston a 3-0 lead.
After the game, Boston manager Chuck Hildebrandt applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
The win has Boston at 14-13. | | | | |
