On Road, St. Louis Drops Los Angeles, 5-2 | The Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
The St. Louis Cardinals got a strong performance from pitcher Gary Gentry, who stymied the Los Angeles offense en route to a win, 5-2, at Dodger Stadium. Gentry, now 8-4, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Bob Miller earned the save for St. Louis, his 12th of the year.
Paul Molitor, the two-time All-Star , had a direct impact on the outcome. Molitor contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to put St. Louis up, 2-0.
"Gary is still learning," said Cardinals manager "Disco" John Conley. "The sky's the limit for him."
